Darkness of a Thousand Midnights

  • Sat Nam Yoga Chicago 1304 West Washington Boulevard Chicago, IL, 60607 United States (map)

“When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds and our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, we will know that we are living in the creative turmoil of a genuine civilization struggling to be born.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

An epidemic of sadness, depression, loneliness, and insomnia is everywhere. Psychologists detail the mental health impact of Covid, extreme social turmoil, and climate change.

To transform breakdowns into breakthroughs, that is the job of the moment. It is not a moment to work harder to make the old ideas work. It is a time to think different, be different, and to use our brains differently.

Our action might not be perfect, but paralysis is what we can least afford.

This Kundalini workshop is to sit in the essence of sadness, or loneliness, or despair and to experience how these can be used to grow, and to see how these very forces, like the darkness of 1000 midnights, can deepen our resolve, sharpen our awareness, and quicken our step.

It will also explore a core paradox of our time: how to be a yogi who needs nothing, content with what is, and an activist who feels the deepest currents of life and knows just when to use power to bring deep social change.
